Brisbane
Just one hour north of the Gold Coast and straight up the Bruce Highway is the city of Brisbane . You won't find beaches around here, but you will find a beautiful, vibrant city renowned for its friendly people and atmosphere. Brisbane is always buzzing with loads of things to see and do!
Enjoy the alfresco dining and funky shopping precincts as well as entertainment, sporting and cultural events. Situated in the heart of Brisbane are the South Bank Parklands, one of Brisbane 's most outstanding recreational facilities and enjoyed by over five million visitors a year. Perfect for families, it encompasses South Bank Beach , many rainforest walks, cafes and restaurants, markets and landscaped parklands. South Bank is most famous for its large man-made beach, which boasts a beautiful, clear, freshwater lagoon. The surrounding landscape includes white sandy beaches, bubbling creeks and shady tropical gardens. You won't find anything else like it!
You will love discovering the world's largest subtropical gardens at the Roma Street Parklands and taking a walk across the Goodwill Bridge to the City Botanic Gardens.
Brisbane is also home to some of Queensland 's biggest events, including the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, the State of Origin (Rugby League), Jazz & Blues Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival, Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) and the River Festival.

Beerwah
Home of the world-famous Australia Zoo, Beerwah is situated just one hour north of the Brisbane Airport .
Take a scenic drive down the Glasshouse Mountains Tourist Drive and you will find this quiet little town. Beerwah offers budget accommodation options that are great for backpackers or travelers wanting to stop by and check out the incredible Australia Zoo.

Maleny/Montville
If you are looking to escape the city life and experience the tranquility of nature, take a drive up the winding hinterland roads to the charming towns of Montville and Maleny. Perched on the Blackall Ranges you will find an abundance of cabins and cosy getaways nestled among thick forest canopies. You will be sure to find the perfect backdrop for romance!
Spend your leisure time browsing the various art and craft stores, galleries and specialty shops downtown, and there are also many little cafes and sweet shops for you to visit and dine in.
While you are here, make sure you take the time to explore the national parks, dams and state forests that surround these beautiful towns. Pack a picnic basket and walk through the forest tracks down to the waterfalls. You may even like to take a dip in the creeks and dams!
Australia Zoo is just a five to ten minute drive down the range from both of these towns and they are located just over an hour's drive from the Brisbane Airport .

Caloundra
Just one hour north of Brisbane is the spectacular Sunshine Coast , and once you reach the coast your first beach town stop is Caloundra. With 32 kilometres of ocean and protected beaches to choose from, you are sure to find the perfect place to holiday!
With its enviable location in the state's south-east corner, Caloundra City has retained the relaxed lifestyle that complements its natural environment, which includes some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia . Along Caloundra you can find many great holiday spots from Golden Beach , Shelly Beach and Moffat Beach to Dicky Beach and Kings.
With many places to dine and shop right on the beachfront, the options are endless!

Mooloolaba
Looking for a spectacular beach holiday? Head to Mooloolaba!
The main beach in Mooloolaba is the Mooloolaba Spit, which is ideal for families and is backed by pretty parkland offering wonderful picnic areas. Along the beachfront there are two of Queensland 's most beautiful caravan parks. The children will love to play in the rock pools and swim at the patrolled beach. There is also a great playground for the little ones to enjoy.
Due to its fabulous location, Mooloolaba is the perfect place to enjoy surfing and fishing. From Mooloolaba you can also head out to sea to enjoy a day of deep sea or game fishing.
The River Esplanade is situated opposite the beach and offers a number of cafes and restaurants. There are also several shops and boutiques where you can purchase gifts, clothing and unique artwork. Another great shopping venue is the Sunshine Plaza , which is located a short distance north of Mooloolaba and offers heaps of different shops and dining outlets.
Mooloolaba is also home to a large port that accommodates the Auckland to Mooloolaba and the Sydney to Mooloolaba Yacht Races. Next to the port is the Wharf, a large shopping, dining and entertainment complex. Underwater World is located at the Wharf and is a great place to learn about and see a number of different sea creatures, including some incredible sharks! Mooloolaba also features a number of other attractions that you can enjoy.
If you want to take some fantastic photographs of Mooloolaba, be sure to visit the famous 'Loo With a View'. The public conveniences have become a terrific and very popular photo spot! The Loo With a View has also played host to some awesome public performances, including a recent concert with Australian band ‘Evermore'.

Noosa
At the northern end of the Sunshine Coast is cosmopolitan Noosa with boutiques, cafes and beautiful beaches. Noosa also has a large national park that winds and twists around rocky coves and beautiful beaches. This is a great walk, and you can stop for a swim at every corner!
Noosa Heads offers a range of accommodation options from apartments and hotels to houseboats. While in Noosa, why not have a swing at one of the city's top class golf courses, take a cruise on the river or polish your surfing skills? Fraser Island
Just off the coast from Queensland 's Hervey Bay is World Heritage Listed Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world and the only place on the planet where you will see a rainforest growing on sand! Over 120 kilometres long and over 30 kilometres across at its widest point, Fraser Island has developed over 800,000 years and is a unique natural environment.
Fraser Island boasts a wealth of natural attractions: pristine freshwater lakes such as Lakes McKenzie, Boomanjin, Allom and the spectacular Lake Wabby ; crystal clear creeks - Eli Creek being the most well-known; Champagne Pools - wonderful rock-pools ideal for swimming, and the amazing coloured sand formations known as the Cathedrals. There is also the Central Station camping area and ranger station to enjoy. On the eastern beach near Happy Valley you will discover Fraser Island 's own shipwreck - the Maheno.
Fraser Island is home to thousands of species of birds and its warm waters attract dugong, dolphins and turtles. The magnificent humpback whales pass on the western side of the island with their young between August and November.
You can visit Fraser Island either by taking a guided tour, as a foot passenger to the western side, or by self-driving (for four-wheel-drive vehicles only). Access requires crossing the Great Sandy Strait , either by barge or charter aircraft.

Hervey Bay
Hervey Bay is renowned as a ‘must-see' destination for backpackers and is the main access point to Fraser Island and the Southern Great Barrier Reef .
