Volunteer in Patagonia Volunteer in Patagonia Volunteer in Patagonia This is the first of Global Vision International's temperate/cold weather terrestrial expeditions and is undoubtedly their most physically demanding expedition to date. Combining critical conservation projects with challenging exploratory trekking expeditions to some of Patagonia’s most untouched regions, this expedition offers a unique chance to live and work in one of the most outstanding regions on our planet in a range of remote habitat types.
The expedition will take you to parts of Patagonia that very few ever see. The exploratory treks range from overnight wild boar tracking transects to two-week mountaineering routes in the heart of the Patagonian Mountains.

Working in conjunction with various conservation bodies throughout Patagonia, this expedition not only offers adventure and unforgettable experiences, but also a chance to add something to the conservation of this unique ecosystem. After weeks of build-up training, the expedition also allows participants to test their newfound fitness by attempting to climb Lanin Volcano, the highest peak in Argentine Patagonia, in addition to a further remote trekking phase. Open to all, this is an excellent expedition for those wanting to explore this amazing region while contributing to its long-term conservation.

Whilst being important from a research and conservation point of view, this expedition will also provide Expedition Members with the chance to be involved in some ground-breaking exploration within Patagonia’s wildest landscapes. The research phase will provide an opportunity to work within Patagonia’s fragile and outstanding environments. The expedition works alongside some amazing projects – contact Australia Zoo Travel for further details.

By focusing on exploration we aim to get out into the wilderness and bring back new and important information about the land and its ecosystems. In this way you will not only be collecting valuable data on the region, you also get to develop your outdoor skills in some truly untouched places.

The expedition aims to include the following aspects:

1. A comprehensive training period in winter mountain skills and field research techniques
2. Scientific research – involving multiple conservation projects
3. Exploratory treks to remote locations such as vast glaciers, rare Southern Beech forests or rich mountain grasslands
4. Working alongside local scientists and assisting with environmental education
5. Lanin Volcano summit attempt – following full training

Please note the above list acts as a guide only; Expedition Members may not experience all the above due to seasonal variances, length of participant duration and wildlife movements. Contact Australia Zoo Travel for further information on seasonal differences. Likewise many more sub-projects not mentioned will also be covered.
